📖
Paper 1 — Guided literary analysis
Unseen text analysis in English. Students write a guided literary analysis of an unseen poem or prose extract. HL has no guiding questions; SL has guiding questions. Marks awarded for understanding, analysis, language, and structure.
✍️
Paper 2 — Comparative essay
Students write a comparative essay on works studied in class. The essay must address a formal question and compare at least two works. HL 1000–1500 words; SL 1000–1500 words. Analytical argument and literary terminology are essential.
🗣️
Individual Oral (IO)
30% of the final grade. Students present an analysis of an extract from one of their studied works connected to a global issue, then discuss with the examiner. Our tutors coach the exact IO structure and oral presentation skills.
📚
Works studied
IB Language A students study literary works across prose, poetry, and drama. Our tutors support analysis of all works on the IB prescribed reading list and help students develop the comparative framework needed for Paper 2.
🏆
HL Essay (HL only)
A formal 1200–1500 word essay on a literary work studied during the course. Developed with teacher supervision and submitted for external marking. Our tutors guide topic selection, argumentation, and formal academic writing in English.
🎭
Literary terminology and analysis
Sophisticated use of literary terminology — imagery, symbolism, narrative perspective, structure, tone — is essential for IB Language A. Our tutors build analytical vocabulary progressively throughout the course.
