AP Changes 2021

The 2021 AP Test changes during the pandemic COVID-19

When are the AP tests conducted usually?

How to handle two AP exams on the same day?

There are two takeaways from this question.

Option 1: Both the subject-exams are on the same day and same time. You suffice to the eligibility criterion of adopting late testing for one of the exams, for which you need to speak to your coordinator.

Option 2: Both the subject-exams are on the same day but at different times. You do not have the provision of being tested late. There is no choice but you have to nail it. Prepare yourself with every day’s meditation regime so that you gain a longer attention span with the same focus and concentration.

How will you plan your studies with the AP schedule in hand?

Always remember that it is not at all wise to linger till the last minute preparation. You should wrap up with your preparation by the second week of April. The last two weeks should be reserved for the AP subject exams which you have in the first two weeks of May.

The COVID 19 AP schedule, May 2021-When are the AP tests for 2021?

External assessment has two papers and constitute 75% of the total score. Paper 1 comprises of 40 marks with a 25% weightage and duration of 1 hour. Paper 2 comprises of 2 hours with a 50% weightage and duration of 2 hours.

Internal Assessment in IB ESS is dealt for 10 instruction hours and counts for 25% of the total score.

How’s the AP score?

When you ace your AP exam with a perfect score, it is expected that you have done a perfect job when it comes to correctly answering every multiple-choice question and scoring the maximum points on every free-response question.

However, ‘just the 5’ does not really uplift the value of your standard score on the 5-point scale, for the simple fact that your perfect score is not even reflected on your scorecard.

Below is the demonstration on how the score attributes are based on a scale of 1-5.

How do you interpret the scores?

>=3 Passing score
4, 5 Credit by colleges
5 Desirable, 80-90 percentile
1-5 Scaled scores converted from composite scores, which are calculated as the cumulative raw points you have earned from the MCQs and free responses.

AP Composite score and Scaled score

Composite Score (0-100 or 0-150) Scaled Score (1-5)
104-150 5
92-103 4
76-91 3
50-75 2
0-49 1

Recommendations based on the AP statistic (2019)

AP subjects No. of Perfect Scores No. of Test Takers % Perfect Scores %5s Analysis and Evaluation Recommendations
Physics C: Mechanics 1 57,131 0.00175% 37.7% Perfect scores, however, do not reflect on your scorecard. This statistic evinces that in spite of the second most % of takers being awarded with a 5 in Physics C, there is lot of room for further chiselling so as to grab a perfect score.  Fine tuning is possible with expert handholding and self-reflection
Computer Science A 601 69,685 0.86245% 26.7% The statistic suggests that there is a maximum scope of grabbing a perfect score as shown in reality. However, a few 5-point scorers are not perfect scorers, though are high score takers. So, with a bit more hard effort these takers with ‘just about’ perfect scores can surely become perfect scorers. Fine tuning is possible with expert handholding and self-reflection
Calculus BC 7 139,195 0.00503% 43% We get to see that most % of takers being awarded with a 5 in Calculus BC. But comparatively there is a low % of perfect score takers. So, there is lot of room for further chiselling so as to grab a perfect score. Fine tuning is possible with expert handholding and self-reflection
Biology 1 260,816 0.00038% 7.2% In the field of Natural Science, you can see that there is a very low % of perfect scorers and 5 point takers. This calls for a much-needed shot for Biology experts who can be the right hand holders. Guidance by expert Biology tutors
English Language and Composition 2 573,171 0.00035% 9.9% Yes, it’s true that Language study requires a lot of creativity and linguistic command to fetch a perfect score. However, if you compare the study of English Language and Composition with Biology, you would see that the % of perfect score takers in English is lower than in Biology, whereas the % of perfect 5 pointers is slightly higher. This clearly shows that it is possible to improve the performance in absolute terms in English with the right hand holding and approach.  Demand for expert English tutors
World History 1 313,317 0.00032% 8.6% History is one of the most demanding subjects and ranks 3rd following English Lang and Comp and US History. However, if you see the % of perfect scorers, it is the lowest, whereas ranks higher in the % of 5 point takers as compared to even a science subject like Biology. This makes it inevitable to have a high number of expert tutors in History who are certified to handle the international curricula. Demand for expert History tutors
