Theory of Knowledge ib and IB Extended essay
In order to secure a diploma, a student must originally produce a research work of not more than 4000 words in one of the higher level or standard level subjects chosen. This is called an extended essay. The nature of research work depends on the subject in which the student chooses to write the extended essay.
Â
For example, an IB extended essay in Business Management requires enormous secondary research to justify the research question whereas an extended essay in economics is also majorly focused on secondary research however it is bent towards choosing a macroeconomics topic and/or linking it with development economics topic. For this purpose students may take up primary research as well, sometimes, to support their findings and analysis. Students may ask for an Extended essay guide from us, free of charge, by clicking here. You will also be able to find IB extended essay topics and extended essay examples.
Â
Similarly, theory of knowledge is also a key area which students must pass to secure their IB diploma. The TOK course is very interesting and recently the IB has changed the entire course. The course consists of a section called- ‘Knowledge and the Knower’, which is the main component of the course. There are five areas of knowledge which the school must cover up and they are The Arts, Mathematics, History, Natural science, and Human science.
Â
Further to this, there are optional themes, and schools are advised to cover up at least 2 out of the list of 5. These are Knowledge and indigenous society, Knowledge and language, Knowledge and politics, knowledge and religion and the last one is knowledge and technology.
Students write TOK essay from the list of 6 prescribed titles which are issued by the IB in the month of September every year. The TOK essay must not be more than 1600 words. It is marked externally while TOK exhibition is marked internally and students choose objects and prompt to do this activity. You may check out our website theory of knowledge and TOK2022 for more details.
Plagiarism
Most curriculums and their pedagogical structure does not expect students to submit original ideas. Most students refer to previous work and copy-paste to finally submit their work however in IB it is strictly important to demonstrate academic honesty. The project works as the theory of knowledge, the extended essay and internal assessment and CAS projects must be original ideas and they undergo a plagiarism check.
Â
Students can refer to websites like Chegg and Turnitin to submit their work and get a plagiarism report. It is advised that the plagiarism report/similarity must not be greater than 5 percent. It is strongly recommended that students must remove citations before uploading their files for plagiarism check. You may read a detailed argument on plagiarism by clicking here.
How do I choose IB diploma subjects?
In order to secure a diploma, a student must choose total of 6 subjects from the designated 6 areas of knowledge. Students are expected to choose 3 higher-level subjects (preferably the ones in which they are planning to pursue future education/college/majors). Most foreign universities give preference to certain subjects and/or combinations of subjects while applying for college applications.
Â
Similarly, a student must also choose 3 standard-level subjects. If a student has taken a standard level subject in which he/she wants to pursue her future education, it does not mean that they will be at a disadvantage however it is always advisable to check with a school counselor who can surely guide in such cases. Remember, nobody fails in IBDP. you will either get a diploma if you have successfully pass TOK and EE or otherwise you will be awarded a certificate.
Â
Sometimes, students find it challenging to cope up with all the subjects due to deadline pressures and sometimes lack of effective resources in respective schools. In such a case, students can rely on private tutors who have experienced IB tutors who help them to sail through the diploma. Our courses are for snappy modification. Teacher Predicted Grades
Teacher predicted grades are utterly important if a student is applying in certain US colleges while many UK universities and colleges do not consider predicted grades. What eventually matters is the actual IBDP score, for admission in the UK. One must meet the conditions to reach universities like Warrick, Bath, Imperial College of London, London Business School, and many more prestigious colleges.
Â
On the contrary, many universities in the US give admission unconditionally, based on teacher predicted grades entered on the predicted grades portal. The predicted grades portal helps universities to understand the academic journey of students from the point of view of IB subject teachers at IB school, respectively. Some US universities also give Early decisions (ED). Utilize 2 years of admittance to the online course to assist you with scoring good grades on all the tests in class. Along these lines, you can guarantee your anticipated evaluations are as high as workable for when you apply to college!Â
Should I choose IB for my child?
Its a personal choice. IB curriculum is futuristic, full of compassion and brings about empathetic values in children. IB prepares kids as global citizens rather than restricting their thoughts and thinking processes to domestic culture, values and up bringing. It does not matter if your child is going to be studying abroad or will pursue future education in their respective home country. What matter is the skillful nature and the thinking ability which no other curriculum offers, in my honest opinion.
